Show-Me Sports Legacies

Bulldog Strong: 50 Years of Trenton Bulldog Wrestling (Part 1 of 2)

Jeff Crowley, Host, Kris Ockenfels, Co-Host Season 2 Episode 2

Missouri and National Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Ron Hurst and current Head Wrestling Coach Charlie Bacon join us for a look at the highly successful last 50 years of Trenton, MO Bulldog Wrestling.  Since 1974 the program has had only 3 head coaches, our panelists plus Coach Bill Hill (2001-2012). This legacy of great leadership has provided a continuity of values that still drive the program's success today.  Join us as we talk about adversity and overcoming those challenges to reach great heights.  Bulldog Wrestling has produced a dozen state champions and dozens of medal winners including Karson Hill, 3 time state champ who set the USA Wrestling national record for takedowns in one season, 559 in 2012!  Coach Hurst, Hill and Bacon have built a Bulldog Strong program that changes the young people (now including a rapidly growing girls wrestling program) who put in the hard work in order to reach their dreams.

Show-Me Sports Legacies takes a story approach to learning about high school, junior college, D2 & D1 college sports and our beloved professional franchises in Kansas City and St. Louis. We talk to people who have made their mark as coaches, players, scouts and business people after coming from small towns or little known communities or neighborhoods. We talk to people who are seeking to establish their reputation and break into sports career success. With a fan's perspective we look at how to encourage and support people who have that sporting dream.
