Show-Me Sports Legacies

Bulldog Strong: 50 Years of Trenton Bulldog Wrestling (Part 2 of 2)

Jeff Crowley, Host, Kris Ockenfels, Co-Host Season 2 Episode 3

Missouri and National Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Ron Hurst and current Head Wrestling Coach Charlie Bacon join us for a look at the highly successful last 50 years of Trenton, MO Bulldog Wrestling.  Since 1974 the program has had only 3 head coaches, our panelists plus Coach Bill Hill (2001-2012). This legacy of great leadership has provided a continuity of values that still drive the program's success today.

Part 2 looks at the tremendous improvement in facilities from 50 years ago and we relive some of the greatest matches in Bulldog Wrestling history, both victorious and heartbreaking!  The recent impact of girls wrestling and the explosion in that new area is examined and we wind up with some perspective on what a life in wrestling has provided for these two coaches and the enduring legacy of their impact on young people in the community.

Show-Me Sports Legacies takes a story approach to learning about high school, junior college, D2 & D1 college sports and our beloved professional franchises in Kansas City and St. Louis. We talk to people who have made their mark as coaches, players, scouts and business people after coming from small towns or little known communities or neighborhoods. We talk to people who are seeking to establish their reputation and break into sports career success. With a fan's perspective we look at how to encourage and support people who have that sporting dream.
